Whether you're a kayaker, canoeist, bicyclist, fisherman, birder, or someone who prefers to simply sit and enjoy, the DuPage River Watershed abounds with opportunities for you to connect with nature. Canoeing and Kayaking Canoeists and kayakers can enter the West and East Branch of the DuPage River and Salt Creek at their own risk at any forest preserve where the waterways pass, with the exception of Oak Meadows. At Oak Meadows, paddlers on Salt Creek may pass through the golf course but may only exit the water to portage around the dam. Easy river access to the West Branch is offered at Blackwell Forest Preserve in Warrenville and McDowell Grove Forest Preserve in NapervilleThe Forest Preserve District offers easy access to waterways at these locations. Access to the East Branch is currently unavailable due to ongoing restoration efforts, but will soon be offered at Churchill Woods Forest Preserve.
